fond-ecran-juin-2010

After a long absence, and I apologize to those who waited at least the wallpaper (thank you to those who have expressed interest in these Wallpapers), I return with news and a lot of things to come. The winter was fairly busy, so, the blog has grown a little background. Add a few worries connection (anything from two weeks ...), and a lot of hours on the train and other vehicles to go on shooting sessions, and you get two months without publishing an article. When will the days of 72 hours? Regardless, it all falls into place gradually.

Interview: I begin with news from the site "LesPhotographes.com" for which I gave an interview last year. The editors have been busy and have recently published a collection of interviews in 2009 paper. You will discover the work of fifty photographers including among others Peter Cimburek , " Johnny Collangette , Francois Benveniste , you definitely need to know if you are familiar with forums and photos to the "blogosphere". The collection is available in two versions, one in black and white for 5 €, and another color for 25 €. To order, visit the website LesPhotographes.com .

affiche-AEF-der Show: The city of La Clayette Burgundy organizing the 6th edition of its Festival of Contemporary Art "Art-in-Day" from July 16 to August 8. A dozen artists working in different fields like painting, sculpture, printmaking, video will be represented and I would participate in this event by providing a photo exhibition. I will give more details about the show in a forthcoming article, but you can find information about the festival by visiting Art-in-party .

Gacilly: A photo festival not to miss if you're in the Morbihan, "People and Nature" in The Gacilly which runs from June 4 to September 30. I'll do a jump and there will devote a small section.

Desktop Backgrounds: These necklaces are made of carnations on the occasion of Diwali, a Hindu festival annually.

While my host Tiza went about their daily business I was trying to still life. Seeing his incessant comings and goings, it gave me the idea to incorporate a bit of movement in the image. This will be the wallpaper for the month of June, still available in two sizes.

fond-ecran-fevrier-2010

I am hiking with friends in Nepal Helambu region, not far from the Kathmandu Valley and we have walked for three or four days. So far, the weather we had been rather difficult and were not improving.

The day had not started very well: we had started the day a bit too late, the rain kept falling, and we were long overdue to arrive before the next night at the shelter. The day fading away and we began to be exhausted.

While we take a short break before tackling the remaining two hours to arrive at the shelter, this magnificent sight met us. The last rays of sunlight seeping through the subtle cloud cover, and a band of rain made the scene even more impressive. I took my camera off a couple times, then five minutes later we were in total darkness ... We still had two hours to walk to reach the shelter, of course the rain did not spare us before we arrived, but we have reached our destination without hassle.

So much work to give you a wallpaper ...

The decisive moment, or the art of patience

instant-decisif

For those interested in the photo at least, the concept of decisive moment made by Henri Cartier-Bresson is not unknown.

When I started photography, I have often wondered how photographers like Robert Doisneau, Steve McCurry, or just Henri Cartier-Bresson came to capture those decisive moments and with equal success. How did it for the good passing, good sunshine, or the dog that passes in the final image plane, which gives new meaning to the picture and with the compositions always impeccable. I thought that all this belonged to a little luck and the ability of the artist to "smell good shot."

By taking interest closer to some photographers, I told myself that they were really lucky and had a lot of scents. I soon realized that in fact it was not.

I realized that this whole progressing decisive moment of history was largely a matter of tenacity and perseverance. I've realized when I took the photo that I use for my exhibition "Faces of Laos" .

I walked the streets of a village, when I saw these children playing "catch me if you can." I knew I could make a good photo with all this joy and energy from this group of children. I am discreet and I am sitting in a corner of the alley. I first watched the kids for a while, then I stayed for an hour at least to start.

Of all the pictures I took of this session, only one satisfied me with a good kid with good expression, which is passed to the right place, with good characters in the background ... finally, and strength patience, I managed to get the picture I wanted and capture the moment which seemed decisive.

The decisive moment is primarily a matter of determination and perseverance. Exit to return to the right place repeatedly, note the passing of such person as cycling, such a dog and stay posted for hours to seize this moment. By taking interest in methods of work of photographers that I thought lucky and having a flair, my understanding of the decisive moment has been confirmed.

It's all about spending many hours searching for suitable locations, find the best framework, and numerous hours to wait.

A story of patience and observation ...

Best wishes to all and to all!

For the first wallpaper of 2010, I offer a bunch of "Kalkalo. This vegetable is used in some parts of Nepal. On the edge cut into thin slices, then dried in the sun it is then stored and eaten during the winter. It is usually prepared with other vegetables and spices to make the Dhal-bhat, the national dish of Nepal.

And the picture becomes a game

I stayed for several days already in a Nepalese village and I stayed in a small Guest House (which was more of a homestay than a "hotel") held by two women, Loxmi 79 years old and daughter of Tiza a fifty year. I was incredibly received and stayed with them three weeks to observe and learn the lives of Nepalese farmers.

In the middle of my stay, I organized a little "photo shoot". I already had the picture in mind a few days before and I told my two models the day before that I like to make a picture of themselves in their kitchen during their "tea break" daily. Tiza Loxmi and seemed quite enthusiastic. Was an understatement.

The next morning, I left all my gear: The device, mounted on a tripod, remote control (not to keep an eye glued behind the case and communicate more easily with the models), and the ultimate, a reflector to "lead" the dark parts held by an assistant. It was enough for my two budding stars will take the game and work to readjust their dresses, their hair rearrange, hide unsightly fold, as models of real pros :-) .

The meeting at length about ten minutes at most, in an atmosphere of jokes and laughter!

The portrait photography and "humanist" things are not easy. For me, it's never easy to get into people's privacy and their aim a camera under the nose. When I photograph a person, I still have that modesty brings me lots of questions: "Is what I did not bother with my pictures, I do not abusing its time, it must Tired of having all the time took pictures ....

It is recognized that in areas frequented by tourism, some people are highly sought after for portraits and not always the most sensitive (There are even many, many shocking behavior from some photographers but I think ... c is another matter) and become quite reluctant to the idea of being pulled yet another portrait again.

But sometimes, the picture may become a game and fun for the photographer and the (s) model (s). Taking his time, forging links, complicity, people gain confidence and become more relaxed. I think the quick installation of all equipment there is also a little, showing that we want to make a serious picture and the best possible conditions, the models feel honored by all this attention and ask without hesitation. In any case, what I felt in making this meeting and a few others. It goes without saying that in this case, send some prints to people photographed !!!!! If they play the game, he must play too.

Overall I am satisfied with the result because the photo is what I had in mind as soon as I saw the kitchen, but I'm especially pleased with how this session is held and the atmosphere there was.

As I said a little earlier, I am a bit "obsessed" with ethical issues and I sometimes have difficulties to overcome my shyness. This session gave me great motivation to repeat this kind of experience and made me realize that the photo could be a game and a source of good humor, without being experienced as a constraint or voyeurism. It depends (again) how it's done and how we approach people.

The last wallpaper for this year 2009, with a sunset in Nepal. It's been several days since I came to the same place to photograph the landscape, hoping to have beautiful clouds or stormy weather, without success. Then finally, one evening, a special guest appeared and the moon got rewarded with a thin crescent of light ...

The wallpaper is available as usual in two dimensions.

A bit of sweetness to start this September with the glow of muted northern Laos. I took this picture during a trek a few kilometers from the Chinese border. It was just before going to bed and I noticed this particular light with the light bar. I was no explanation for this band, I just took my camera, framed and fired ...

The last two months have been pretty busy for me, and I spent very little time (see very, very little) to the photo. The storm is past, and I can now resume my projects including my next trip to Nepal.

Stick around, there will be a little more article from this week. ;-)
